HOW WE STARTED

In 1979 Eduardo Tijerina joined U.S. Customs Service as an Inspector. He later went on to hold numerous supervisory positions within U.S. Customs and accumulated vast experience in multiple areas of the agency. In addition, he completed several assignments with Headquarters in Washington DC, served as an Instructor at Customs Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia, and completed training details in places such as Ecuador with CBP’s Office of International Affairs. After a distinguished 25-year career with U.S. Customs & Border Protection, Eduardo Tijerina retired and ventured into a new role as a U.S. Customs Broker.

In 2000, his daughter Denise followed in his steps after receiving her Bachelor’s Degree. Like him, she successfully passed the Customs Broker examination on her first attempt and received her U.S. Customs Broker License. Under her father’s mentorship, she founded TQ Customs Brokerage. Her father, Eduardo, worked alongside her for several years until his passing.

Denise Tijerina currently has 25 years of experience in this industry. She attributes the startup of her company in part to her father – his guidance, support, and the instillment of hard work and determination. She recently completed a business program at Stanford Graduate School of Business through a qualification and selection process. Prior to that, she was selected to participate in an executive program with the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. Her company holds the distinction of being both a 100% owned Minority and Woman Owned Business.
